County fairs are a staple for a Northeast Wisconsin Summer, and when the end of August approaches and just before the kids are packing their bags to head back to school there is always the Manitowoc County Fair for a little more enjoyment and entertainment.
Like most county fairs there is plenty to see and do. From livestock shows to a demolition derby and tractor pull, the day and evening schedules are full. For 2009, the big attractions include the chainsaw sculpture show by the LogHoggers and a headliner concert by country star Darryl Worley.
This year’s fair takes place from Aug. 25 to Aug. 30 at the Manitowoc County Expo Center located just a half-mile from Interstate 43. Daily admission ranges from $4 for seniors to $25 for the entire week.
With opening day just around the corner it you still have plenty of time to plan a day or two at the fair grounds before putting a cap on the summer. There is a lot to see and do, so check out the fair schedule and pick the days will be perfect for you. If you’re unsure about staying the night, RTownShopper can cut your lodging expense in half at the Super 8 right in the city of Manitowoc. The port city of Manitowoc Wis. draws thousands of visitors each year as a landmark city for famous shipwrecks, naval vessels and spectacular shore views. When planning a weekend in Northeast Wisconsin this summer, this maritime community is one stop that should not be missed.
A city of 34,000-plus, Manitowoc is boasts entertainment, activities, festivals and attractions that are unique to coastline communities.

It’s the sound of a big-block V8, the smell of racing fuel, and the sight of 600-hp, feather-light cars drifting around dirt corners that ignites a high-octane exhilaration in gear heads. For those who are not concerned with piston rings or tire pressure, the thrill comes from the sheet metal-crimpling crashes, as long as everyone walks away unscathed.
Regardless of why you enjoy watching it, circle track racing is an American favorite and one of Northeast Wisconsin’s premier racetracks is Shawano Speedway. Located on the Shawano County Fairgrounds, this half-mile dirt oval entertains fans every Saturday night from April to September with five divisions of racecars. Classes include the low-cost, crash-happy IMCA stock cars, chopped and customized IMCA modifieds, and the lighting quick, high-output IMCA late models.
Tickets at the gate are already reasonable, but RTownShopper has discounted gift certificates for two adult tickets or family-size packages to a mudslinging, heart-pumping evening at Shawano Speedway. Also, be sure to check out the deals RTownShopper has for Shawano, Wisconsin-area restaurants so you can fuel up before the engines roar and the green flag drops.

As towns expand and populations grow, there is less of an attraction to keep your business local when the big-box stores have everything on your shopping list. The team at RTownShopper strongly believes that there is great benefit in growing and sustaining commerce at home. That’s reason the reason RTownShopper is your best resource for discount gift certificates to local retail shops, restaurants and recreation activities. Listed below are just a few simple reasons why they created a site for you to save money and enjoy visiting and shopping local in Northeast Wisconsin.
Fresher Products – When it comes to product freshness choosing quality usually trumps big-box store bulk alternatives. You can bet that the products you buy from your local pantry, bakery, and farmers market are freshly picked, placed and prepared.
Proximity – For many living in outlying communities the trip to a large retailer could take a serious investment of time and money. Why waste either of them and drive 20 or 30 miles when similar items can be picked up just blocks away?
Helping a Neighbor – Choosing your local bakery over the supercenter on the edge of town is more than just about dollars and cents. Many of the small retailers in your town have been in business for generations and it’s what they do best. Your exchange of cash for their goods gives them a reason to continue doing what they love.
Keeping the Cash At Home – After the sale is made, local businesses return almost 80% of earnings right back into the community where you live. Keeping that local commerce thriving generates jobs just like the large competitors do.
Strengthen Community Character – There is an appeal of a booming downtown on a Saturday afternoon and a self-sufficient community is one that can grow and prosper. Without local enterprises many of those buildings would stand abandoned and the appeal of launching a successful small business begins to diminish when there is limited local spending.
