First, make sure everything is covered; you’ve asked her father’s permission for her hand in marriage, you’ve planned out the romantic getaway, the car is packed, and you’ve arranged for Lovin’ Pets to take care of your pooch while you’re away.lthumb_d6910a9f-147e-cd1a-fd53-4bccb2a05601

The first activity for this special weekend is Serenity Day Spa and Salon where you’ll both relax with a one-hour massage, facial, sugar scrub, and rain forest shower.

After she feels rejuvenated, take her to get her hair professionally done at Royal Hair Designs, because you know she’ll want to look nice for your next activity. Next stop is to visit photographer Debbie Daanen to ensure this day is remembered forever.

Finally, it’s time to check into your room at Sybaris, the perfect romantic getaway spot. lthumb_ab460e74-470c-0b2a-c285-4ba0d3fe09eeWaiting in the room is a gorgeous arrangement of flowers from Belle Fiori.lthumb_9138d58b-1eea-f3b3-b313-4b0330d85db3

Dinner reservations are at 8 so you both rush to get ready for dinner at Millhome Supper Club where their mission is to “give you a dining experience that is second to none…”

After dinner, she may find it strange that she’s all dressed up for the night of bowling you’ve planned at the 10th Frame, but she goes along with it. 1064bowling_ballAs she gets ready to bowl and puts her fingers in the appropriate holes, a ring slips onto her finger. Dining Out: 7 Ways to Spend Less

Two Women Save Money on Dining

While dining out regularly can be costly, it doesn’t have to be. Look for savings in your dining out budget with these tips:

Let’s do Lunch. Try a new restaurant for lunch instead of dinner. Lunch menus are often smaller, less expensive versions of the dinner menus. Going for dinner? Order an appetizer instead of a main course. The portions are smaller, and so is the price.

Click and Save. Look for coupons online. Discount coupon sites offer great savings on restaurants. (But remember to tip your server on the full amount.)

Advance Notice. Check the menu in advance. It’s easier to make your decision while you have plenty of time, without the growling stomach, tempting smells and busy server. This is a great way to save calories too.

Cash Reserve. Make a reservation instead of waiting in the bar. You won’t be tempted to buy appetizers or drinks while you wait.

Add it Up. Servers are trained to up-sell, even after you’ve made your budget-conscious decision. Mushrooms on your steak? Cheese on your potato? And everyone knows the old stand-by: “Would you like fries with that?”

Water Please. Beverages add a considerable amount, even double, to your bill. A fountain soda can add $2, while a glass of wine can be $6 and up, even for a bottle you can buy for under $10 in the store. If you are with a group, split a bottle of wine with your table. You’ll pay less per glass.

Just Desserts. While you’re sharing, consider splitting dessert as well. Ordering a cup of coffee for dessert is another option.

Tightening your belt doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a night out now and then. Have any more tips to share? How have you saved money on dining out?

Going Local Is The Way To Go

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Shopping at your town’s locally owned stores is something that just isn’t done by many people today, at least not on a regular basis. We, as Americans, like to go to our huge chain stores, where we can find everything we need, with one stop shopping and what appears to be lower prices. But what is this really doing for our community, and how are we really helping out our locally owned businesses?

Local businesses are crucial to the survival of our economy. On average, local businesses give back to their community 80% of each dollar, fueling growth and connectivity. They also employ about half of all our nation’s workers. Not only that, local businesses give more to the national economy than the big chain stores do, simply by way of the “trickle down effect.” When we shop locally, most of that money comes back to the community, which then trickles up to the national providers. Therefore, if we want our local and national environment to thrive, shopping locally is the way to go.

There is a program out there, called the 3/50 project, (check it out at www.the350project.net) that is all about supporting our local businesses. Plain and simple, it says that if we start spending more money at our own brick and mortar stores, good things will happen.  RTownShopper does it’s own part to support the local mom and pop shops we all love. RTownShopper deals in what they call discount gift certificates. The local business gives these to RTownShopper to sell. This in itself is what the local business is charged for being on RTownShopper’s site. They work with the age old system of barter. No actual money ever exchanges hands between RTownShopper and the local business. When RTownShopper sells these gift certificates, which are at least 50% cheaper than average coupons, this  brings in new clients, as well as revenue, to the store. RTownShopper also lets you print these gift certificates, instead of mailing them, which adds the incentive of efficiency to shopping local. Check out RTownShopper’s site to learn more about them.

So the next time you are looking for a good restaurants, retail stores, or hotels remember to support your community, and to always check out www.rtownshopper.com, because going local is the best way to go.
